Mysteries & Lies

Presented at the 2026 Toronto Fringe Festival at Sweet Action Theatre, Mysteries & Lies was an intimate, interactive magic show directed by James Biss and performed by James Alan. Staged in a converted classroom, the production used sleight-of-hand to tackle modern anxieties surrounding deepfakes, human manipulation, and shifting truth. Audience members actively verified the illusions and made pivotal choices, directly shaping each unique performance. Blending psychology, theater, and illusion, it ultimately left viewers questioning the subtle untruths we tell ourselves.
